How many quarters does it take to make a mile, laying them end to end? The answer is 63,000!The Boys & Girls Club of the West Valley will hold its fourth annual “Mile of Quarters” on Saturday, September 11 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Westfield Topanga Mall. This is the only event of its kind and each year hundreds of children and their families spend time placing the quarters to complete one mile (5,280 feet). People can purchase one foot of quarters for $3.25 or sponsor a Mile Marker for more. A DJ will play music and there will be children’s entertainment and dignitaries throughout the day. Metro Line Construction Extension Information - New Information this Week

Metro's Contractor continues to work on the excavation of boring pits to facilitate the undergrounding of the utilities on Lassen Street between the Owensmouth Ave Avenue and Canoga Avenue.  This activity will require the reconfiguration of traffic to one line in each direction on Lassen Street and the placement onf concert barriers (k-rails) to isolate the work zone.

Beginning at 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, traffice lanes will be reconfigured in support a new bore pit location at the center of Lassen.  The traffic lane configuration will take one day. After the lanes have been configured the contractor will begin the boring pit work, which is anticipated to last until mid October.  The anticipated work hours for this activity are from  6:00 a.m to 4:30 p.m, Monday through Friday, weather permitting.

Facade Improvement Grant Program

The West Valley Facade Improvement Grant Program offers conditional grants to local business tenants and property owner to improve the appearance of their storefronts and buildings. The program also includes complimentary architectural/design services. The goal of the Facade improvement Grant Program is to attract and retain retail and commercial businesses in the West Valley.    The Grant program was created by the Community Redevelopment Agency of Los Angeles (CRA/LA) is committed to assisting business and developing vibrant commercial districts.  Business Tenants (renters) can qualify for grants up to $20,000.00 per store front ($40,000.00 maximum conditional grant) Property owners can recipe up to $40,000 per storefront ($250,00 maximum conditional grant). As either the tenant or property owner have to do to qualify: Provide and executed CRA/LA Improvement & Maintenance Agreement, Provide an executed Promissory Note and/or Deed of Trust, Pay ALL necessary construction permit fees and other approval fees associated with the facade improvements and hire a contractor at Prevailing Wage rates as determined by the State of California..
